Diol was an immigrant from Senegal, along with four relatives perished in the blaze, during this episode Diol's spouse, their toddler girl, his sister, and his niece died.

New York Consul General of Senegal Elhadji Ndao stated in the news conference that the community had faith in the legal system. He said that the mayor's words helped the community feel that"those who are responsible for this horrible act is going to be brought to justice"

"Law enforcement authorities must take this suspected murder and arson critically," Scott Simpson, Muslim Advocates' people advocacy director, said in a statement to Religion News Service.
