Wiki/Biography

Himani Shivpuri was born on 24 October 1960 (57 years; as in 2018) in Dehradun, Uttrakhand. She did her schooling from Doon School, Dehradun. There she was taught by her dad, Haridutt Bhatt, who was the Hindi teacher at her college. Himani was involved with the drama and play organised by her college. After her schooling, she pursued a diploma in B.Sc. Himani was so much fascinated with theatre and cinema that while she had been in her school days, she used to bunk her classes to watch movies in the cinema hall. She did her post graduation in M.Sc (Organic Chemistry). While performing her post-graduation, she started a parallel career in theatre. Finally, she joined National School of Drama (NSD) at New Delhi and graduated from there in 1984. Thereafter, she briefly worked with NSD Repertory Company and, then, relocated to Mumbai.

Himani belongs to some middle-class Garhwali Family. Her dad, Haridutt Bhatt Shailesh, was a Hindi teacher. Her mom, Shail Bhatt, is a homemaker. Himani has a brother, Himanshu Bhatt.

She got married to Gyan Shivpuri, who died in 1995. Himani has a son, Katyayan Shivpuri.

Career

Shivpuri began her acting career in 1984 with the film "Ab Ayega Mazaa." Her breakthrough came in the year 1994 with Sooraj R. Barjatya's musical romantic comedy "Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! ."

She made her TV debut in 1986 with the show"Yatra." Subsequently, she appeared in DD National's TV serial"Humrahi." She also played the role of Devki Bhojai in the series that was widely appreciated and gave her tremendous popularity. Following Humrahi, Shivpuri turned into a regular face of Indian television and featured in popular shows like"Kasautii Zindagi Kay,""Dollar Bahu,""Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,""Ek Ladki Anjaani Si,""India Calling,""Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai,""Baat Hamarri Paki Hai," and"Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivaah."

Himani played some memorable roles in films like"Koyla,""Pardes,""Anjaam,""Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,""Kuch Kuch Hota Hai," and"Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham..."

Besides films and TV serials, she is also an active theatre artist and has acted in plays such as"Mitra Marjani" and"Draupadi."

Himani also played a brief function in the documentary film"The Facebook Generation." The film was one of the top 10 finalists at the movie making contest organised by The Global Instruction and Leadership Foundation.

Controversy

Himani was accused by an Indore-based film manufacturer, Mohammad Ali, for cheating him. According to him, she had entered into an arrangement to perform in his two films titled The true Cyanide and Tere Ishq Mein Qurban and took an improvement of 5 lakh from him. However, She left the second movie midway and refused to work in it causing enormous financial loss to the producer.

Truth

Her hobbies include singing, dancing, and writing.
She credits her dad, Haridutt Bhatt Shailesh, for her successful television and movie career.
Himani led a play called"Sunhare Sapne" according to a story written by her father as a tribute to him.
Shivpuri regularly holds workshops for poor people in Dehradun. She has also provided for the instructional scholarship for two women whose parents had died.
After finishing her post-graduation, she won a scholarship for her further research in the usa. However, she chose to join the National School of Drama (NSD) over researching in the Usa.
