In 2016, Zaira Wasim's images with hair cut moved viral online. She had been criticized and trolled by radical Muslims for having been un-Islamic by behaving in a Hindi movie.
In 2016, Zaira needed a contentious meeting with the then Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti where Mufti had depicted Zaira as the function model of their Kashmiri youth. Afterwards, Zaira apologized on her social networking accounts. But deleted this apology after a while and inserted another open letter clarifying everything.
